RTL Group's Digital Video Plans Taking Shape

The Wall Street Journal has reported that European broadcast RTL Group, which has been dabbling in the digital video world through investments for the past several years, is making its Web video plans clear for the first time.

RTL Group is forming the RTL Digital Hub, writes the WSJ. “The new division will focus on building out the company’s digital advertising clout in the U.S. and Europe,” the article reads. Marcel Reichart has been named EVP of the division.

Among the investments RTL Digital Hub will look to connect, per the WSJ: A $36 million investment in BroadbandTV, a YouTube-based multichannel network; the $144 million RTL spent to buy a majority stake in programmatic video ad exchange SpotXchange; the investment it made in MCN StyleHaul; and its participation in a $19 million round for Clypd, a programmatic TV ad platform.
