Connors Named Publisher 'InStyle'

Time Inc.’s InStylemagazine is getting a new publisher, Patrick J. Connors. In this role, he will work with editorial director Ariel Foxman to develop new revenue streams for the magazine and its associated digital properties.

Connors previously served as senior vice president and publisher of American Media Inc.’s Men’s Fitness, where he helped quadruple the brand’s profitability after joining the company in 2012.

He also helped lead the magazine’s relaunch as a lifestyle brand in 2013 with editor David Zinczenko and increased digital’s share of the brand’s total business to 40% of total revenues.

Before Men’s Fitness, Connors held senior roles, including associate publisher of Glamour, associate publisher of Details and executive beauty director at Lucky.

Connors takes over the reins at InStyle from Steven DeLuca, senior vice president and publisher of Departures, who now returns to the latter role full-time. DeLuca had been serving as interim publisher of InStyle following Time Inc.’s decision to let go the previous publisher, Nina Lawrence, after just six months on the job. Time Inc. never gave a reason for the sudden departure of the mag’s previous publisher.

The broader celebrity category of which InStyle is a part could use a shot in the arm.

In the most recent report from the Alliance for Audited Media, InStyle’s total circ slipped 1.1% to 1.74 million. However this compared favorably to other titles: for example, Life & Style Weekly’s total circ fell 5.4% to 210,892 and In Touch Weekly’s total circulation slid 8.5% to 394,349.
