California Passes Email Privacy Law

California governor Jerry Brown signed an email privacy law on Thursday night. The California Electronic Communications Privacy Act, which passed through the state assembly last month, will require law enforcement to obtain a search warrant in order to access email and mobile user data. The federal government has yet to update the out-of-date law that governs email policy but is expected to pass similar legislation soon.
