Brian Williams has been tapped to succeed Tom Brokaw as the anchor of NBC's nightly news broadcast upon Mr. Brokaw's retirement at the end of 2004, executives from the General Electric Co. television network said Tuesday. Williams currently anchors a cable program that is shown on both MSNBC and CNBC. Network executives said Mr. Brokaw would stay on in the anchor chair through the elections of 2004.
