Sports Illustrated Play To Launch New Platform

Sports Illustrated Play will launch a new digital, mobile and social platform in July, Time Inc. announced today.

Last summer, Time Inc. launched SI Play, a new business devoted to youth sports, after acquiring League Athletics, SportsSignup and iScore. Jeff Karp was hired as CEO of SI Play.

The company’s new platform offers “utility, content and social experience” for its community of about 10 million monthly users, according to a statement.

“As our world goes through a massive digital transformation, the youth sports sector is still underserved by technology," stated Karp.

According to Joe Ripp, CEO of Time Inc., the youth sports space consists of approximately 30 million American athletes aged 5 to 17.

"We are passionate about creating tools and technologies to engage, simplify and celebrate this experience for every participant who touches the youth sports ecosystem," Karp added.

The full-service technology aims to help youth sports administrators and coaches manage activities, such as online registration and payments, calendars and scheduling, professional site creation and team/roster management.

Other features include integrated background checks, team- and league-wide communication tools, tournament management, data and analytics, and team gear and fundraising.
