Rebelmail Launches API That Makes Emails Interactive

Rebelmail, a New York-based email startup, has launched an API to help email marketers make their messages more interactive.

The API, launched Tuesday, effectively allows developers to incorporate Rebelmail’s email technology into their own applications, including a wide variety of interactive email features such as photo galleries and quizzes.

“Email is a key part of how any platform communicates with its users,” writes Rebelmail in a blog post announcing the news. “We believe that there is a future where every email is immediately actionable for an end user from inside their client of choice. We want to make it as simple as possible for our customers to take full advantage of the latest changes in one of the world's oldest communication platforms.”

Additional product features include detailed analytic reports tracking email engagement and an eCommerce integration that allows subscribers to add products directly to their shopping cart from an email message.

This email direct buy button is a growing trend in the email marketing realm with a quarter of marketers planning to integrate a direct buy button in their email marketing campaigns by the end of this year, according to a study by Campaigner released in early 2016. Of the 22% of marketers who had already leveraged an email direct-buy button, 36% reported an increase in sales.

Founded in 2013, Rebelmail has raised $2 million in seed funding led by Vaizra Ventures and Boldstart Ventures. Its current client roster includes Airbnb, HP and JackThreads.
