Rodale Reorganizes Executive Team

Rodale Inc., which publishes health and fitness magazines such as Women’s Health, Men’s Health and Runner’s World, has restructured and shaken up its executive team.

Ronan Gardiner has been promoted to be the company’s first chief advertising officer, Adam Campbell has been named chief content officer and Bill Strickland has been appointed group editorial director.

Rodale chairman and CEO Maria Rodale stated the company reorganization is to “ensure we are aligned for growth, collaboration and efficiency.”

Gardiner was previously Men’s Health VP, publisher and managing director. He will be responsible for an integrated group that focuses on print and digital advertising and marketing, domestic licensing, research and events across Rodale’s portfolio of titles.

Under the new structure, Rodale’s managing directors will report to Gardiner, as will corporate sales and domestic licensing departments.

Chris Peel will replace Gardiner as publisher of Men’s Health.

Campbell was most recently VP and managing director of the direct response and specials department. As chief content officer, he will continue to be responsible for bringing branded books, DVDs and digital products to market, as well as oversee the direct response team and manage Rodale Books and brand editorial.

As editorial director, Strickland will oversee all editorial teams. He replaces Mike Lafavore, who left the position earlier this month following controversial decisions at the company, such as not renewing president Scott Schulman's contract and letting go of 40 staffers.

Leah Flickinger, Bicycling’s executive editor, will replace Strickland as editor-in-chief of the magazine.
