D.C. Stations Blast Nielsen's Meters
May 26, 2005, 8:00 AM
Just when it seemed the furor surrounding Nielsen's rollout of local people meters was beginning to ebb, a group of broadcasters in the nation's capital are turning up the heat in anticipation of Nielsen's June 2 launch in Washington, D.C. Noting that the new service has not yet been audited or accredited by industry watchdog the Media Rating Council, four D.C. area broadcasters including Allbritton Communications, Gannett Co., Tribune Broadcasting and Fox Television, held a press briefing Wednesday calling on Nielsen to delay its launch of the new meters in the market. In a statement, Nielsen said local people meters would make D.C.'s local TV ratings "more accurate and more representative of the local population." -- J.M.
