Google Releases Maps API

  • June 30, 2005
Google Wednesday released the application programming interface for Google Maps, allowing developers the ability to code programs that will interact directly with the search giant's mapping utility, incorporating it into Web pages using Javascript. Using the APIs, developers can also add their own tools into the mapping application, including markers and info windows. The APIs are available for free for both commercial and non-commercial sites, and the maps will display a Google logo and a link back to the Maps home page. Google also reserves the right to show ads on the map in the future, if it chooses.
