The Anti-Spam Technical Alliance (ASTA), which includes major Internet companies Yahoo!, Microsoft Corp., EarthLink, and America Online on Tuesday unveiled its best practices and technical
recommendations for the industry in an effort to fight spam. The proposal provides recommended actions and policies for Internet service providers (ISPs) and email service providers (ESPs) as well as
large bulk mail senders, including governments, private corporations and online marketing organizations. These recommendations settled on two key issues: email forgery and domain spoofing. The
Alliance suggested solving the email forgery problem by employing Internet Protocol-based and signature-based solutions. The complete ASTA proposal can be found at each adopting company's website.
