Yahoo! Search Marketing has tapped Carat veteran Ron Belanger for the newly created position of senior director of global advertiser strategy and development, which will involve advising marketers and agencies on the intricacies of paid search.

Chris Bolte, vice president, strategic alliances for Yahoo! Search Marketing, said that Belanger will consult with clients about issues such as figuring out how to integrate search into marketing budgets, crafting ads, and evaluating the performance of search campaigns.

"What we're looking for Ron to do," Bolte said, "is to help our customers ... evaluate how they can include search into the overall mix of media and marketing plans."

Belanger, who started at Yahoo! last week, reports to Bolte. Until recently, Belanger was vice president, search engine marketing at Carat Interactive (now known as Carat Fusion). While at Carat, he headed America Online's efforts to use search to promote its free portal site--an initiative that involved working with AOL to optimize all of its sites for search engine crawlers.

Belanger also previously worked at the search engine marketing technology company Inceptor. He was replaced at Carat with search executive Jeremy Cornfeldt.
