HBO has struck a deal to provide downloadable programs to Cingular Video. HBO also is reportedly interested in arranging to distribute shows on Apple's video iPod. Cingular customers can pick from
select episodes, scenes, and ringtones from HBO shows including "The Sopranos," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Sex and the City," "Rome," "Deadwood," and "Six Feet Under." Cingular reaches 52.3 million U.S.
subscribers, which is similar enough to a medium-size cable network--and more than good enough for HBO, which reaches 30 million traditional cable subscribers.
