PBS has named a top executive at New York's PBS outlet to take over as president-CEO. On March 13 Paula Kerger becomes director of the nation's largest public broadcasting service, with 348 member
stations that reach 99 percent of the U.S. She succeeds Pat Mitchell. Since 2004, Kerger has served as executive vice president-COO of the Educational Broadcasting Service, which operates New York's
Thirteen/WNET and WLIW. Mitchell announced nearly a year ago that she would not seek a third term as PBS president-CEO, and the PBS board of directors named an 11-member search committee, which tapped
search firm Spencer Stuart for help. The PBS board voted on Sunday to select Kerger as its sixth president.--David Goetzl
