The Senate Commerce Committee Wednesday rejected an amendment that would have included a net neutrality guarantee as part of an overhaul of telecom laws. The committee passed a bill to allow telecoms to compete with cable by delivering video, but tied 11-11 on an amendment that would have prohibited Internet service providers from discriminating against some Web publishers, either by refusing to transmit their content or charging them more for faster transmission. The bill still has to go to the full Senate, where it faces an uncertain future.
