CNET Networks Names Media Vet To CMO Post
May 25, 2004, 12:00 AM
CNET Networks today named Joseph Gillespie to the newly created post of chief marketing officer. Gillespie has 20 years of sales and marketing experience in traditional and online media and most recently was executive vice president-COO and acting CEO of Vulcan Ventures' TechTV. Gillespie joined TechTV in 1999 and ran the business through its acquisition by Vulcan. He oversaw the brand relaunch from ZDTV to TechTV, and was responsible for helping build TechTV's subscriber and advertiser base. Cable giant Comcast is merging TechTV into its G4 video gaming network. Earlier in his career, Gillespie worked in sales and marketing positions at Ziff-Davis, CBS Sports and NBC. At CNET, Gillespie will head sales and marketing and create brand-building strategies for the network's growth. "Technology is no longer a category, it's a lifestyle," Gillespie says.
