NYTimes.com Uses Geo-Targeting To Block Article

The Web site of The New York Times this week used geo-targeting technology to block an article about British terror suspects from online readers in the United Kingdom. The Times was concerned that publication of the article in the United Kingdom would subject the company to liability if it hurt the suspects' ability to get a fair trial. Initially, the newspaper withheld the article from its Web site entirely, but Monday afternoon the company posted a version that couldn't be accessed from NYTimes.com by U.K. readers.
