ESPN Kickoff: Streams College Football On Mobile ESPN

ESPN hopes to dial up interest in its Mobile ESPN by streaming live up to 25 college football games this fall, a groundbreaking use of content delivery over mobile platforms.

The initiative starts Sept. 4 with the Florida State vs. Miami clash. ESPN plans to carry the game on multiple outlets, including broadband. All games will be available to Mobile ESPN subscribers with the Total Sports Package.

ESPN's deal to carry Big East Conference basketball and football games, announced this week, includes the option to carry some games starting in 2007 on the mobile platform.

The move may be intended to spur interest in sales of Mobile ESPN. Earlier this summer, Merrill Lynch analyst Jessica Reif Cohen called for Disney to abandon the venture.
