Google Tries To Curb 'Googling'

  • October 26, 2006
Google was added to the Oxford English Dictionary as a verb this year, but the company's not ready to accept that status just yet. Wednesday, the search giant issued a post on its blog asking people to stop using the phrase "Googling" as synonymous with searching. "While we're pleased that so many people think of us when they think of searching the web, let's face it, we do have a brand to protect, so we'd like to make clear that you should please only use 'Google' when you're actually referring to Google Inc. and our services," the Google blog stated. The move comes several months after Google made a similar request to The Washington Post.
