Frank Stanton, a former president of CBS, died at the age of 98. According to CBS Corp, Stanton was a vital "master builder" for the TV network. He was president from 1946 to 1971, serving the longest of any TV head. Known for his fierce support of free speech, he also was instrumental in making CBS Radio strong. Stanton invented the first device to count radio's ad audience, a forerunner of the people meter, which gave his network an edge.
