Social networking site Bebo has named former Google executive Joanna Shields as president, international. In her new London-based position, Shields will be responsible for expanding Bebo's global
business, including advertising, strategic partnerships and areas such as mobile media and e-commerce. She will report to Bebo co-founder and CEO Michael Birch. At Google, Shields oversaw the
company's syndication network in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and content partnerships for Google Video, Google Books and Google Earth, among other company properties. Previously, she has held
senior management positions at major Internet and technology companies including vice president, international for RealNetworks. San Francisco-based Bebo says it has 30 million registered members.
Bebo.com drew 3 million unique visitors in the U.S. in December 2006--up from 1.4 million a year ago, according to comScore Media Metrix.
