Yahoo Launches Sundance Channel

Yahoo Thursday began adding clips from the Sundance Film Festival to its video offerings.

Yahoo, which has created a branded Sundance Channel section for the initiative, is offering footage from behind the scenes at Park City, Utah, as well as clips of films, shorts, documentaries and filmmaker biographies.

For Sundance, the move is the latest in a series of online distribution deals. Last week, video sharing site YouTube began featuring clips from the Sundance Film Festival, which got underway Jan. 18 and will close Sunday.

The YouTube agreement called on the video-sharing site to create a branded content area, where users can view the Sundance Channel's "Festival Dailies"--a daily wrap-up of that day's proceedings as well as filmmaker profiles, archival footage, and other content.

In addition, AOL's Moviefone recently created a Sundance section that includes short clips, photos and blogs from Park City, Utah. Late last year, Sundance also announced that it had started selling documentaries on iTunes. Also Thursday, Yahoo said it was going to start distributing ExpoTV clips, including buyers guides, user-created product reviews, and marketer-created product demonstrations.
