Beauty site Gloss.com is about to shut down, reports
Women's Wear Daily, after six years of experimentation. Acquired by the Estée Lauder Cos. in 2000 for an estimated $20 million, the
site then expanded to include an alliance with Chanel and Clarins. The site struggled, and reportedly never went above $10 million in sales, as consumers instead chose to buy beauty products either
from branded or retailer sites.
