Pro-War Ad Blitz Launched

  • ABC News, Friday, August 24, 2007 11:15 AM
A group of one-time Bush administration officials have formed a new organization to help their former boss sell his increasingly unpopular war to Americans -- and wavering supporters in his own party. "Freedom's Watch."

Funded by big donors, it's now airing a $15 million ad campaign in 20 states. One spot features a disabled veteran who lost both legs in Iraq buy still says, "if we pull out now, everything I've given and sacrificed will mean nothing." The ads also attempt to link the war with Sept. 11, although neither Iraq nor any Iraqis were involved in those attacks.

One-time White House press rep Air Fleischer is on the group's board of directors. He says its aim is to provide a counter to the rising chorus of anti-war voices. "There's been a three-year silence from conservatives and others who believe in peace through strength," Fleischer says. "The cavalry is coming, we're going to help to get that message out," he said.
