EchoStar May Split Into 2 Companies

EchoStar said it would pay $380 million in cash and stock for Sling Media, producer of the Slingbox TV-technology system. If the two companies split, EchoStar's U.S. satellite-TV business, Dish Network, would continue to operate, and the tech assets would be spun off to holders. EchoStar has asked the IRS to rule on whether the deal would be tax-free to its holders.
