Target, Rite Aid And Walgreen's Pitch In For Fire Victims
Oct 25, 2007, 5:00 AM
Target Corp. stepped up as a major player in relief work for those affected by wildfires in southern California, and says it will make donations totaling $1 million. Donations include financial support for the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army, as well as non-perishable food, water, air mattresses, chairs and pillows. Five of its stores in the area remain closed, it says.
Other retailers have also joined in relief efforts. Walgreens says it sent two truckloads--more than $60,000 in merchandise--to San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium, including water, sun screen, diapers, baby wipes and dust masks, and medical supplies. And the Rite Aid Foundation is giving $100,000 to the American Red Cross, and has shipped items including eye drops, lip balm, sunscreen and hand sanitizer to local shelters.
