Radio-Mercury Awards Adds Categories

  • November 16, 2007
The 2008 Radio-Mercury Awards introduces three new categories in the competition for the $100,000 Grand Prize: Radio Innovations, Political, and Entertainment. In addition, the broadcast time frame requirement for eligibility has been expanded by two months.

The Radio Innovations Category rewards groundbreaking, dynamic use of Radio creative as a vital component in an integrated, multimedia campaign. The current wave of political advertising activity inspired the development of the Political Category, while the introduction of the Entertainment Category reflects the recently announced move of the 2008 Radio-Mercury Awards celebration to Los Angeles.

The eligibility rules for the Radio-Mercury Awards have been revised to allow qualification of entry for Radio commercials that aired on a U.S. commercially licensed Radio station between Jan. 1, 2007 and Feb. 29, 2008--a two-month extension of the broadcast time frame requirements.

The 2008 Radio-Mercury Awards celebration and ceremony will be held on May 21 during an early evening reception in Los Angeles. In conjunction with the earlier date, the call-to-enter time frame has been adjusted to Dec. 7 through Feb. 22.
