Wal-Mart has nixed about 1,400 mags from its in-store distribution list, the
New York Post reported. But the news may not be as bad as it sounds. The mags taken off the shelves made up only 2%
to 3% of total mag retail sales for the chain. The 1,000 pubs remaining make up the lion's share of mag revenues. Although poor sales was the primary reason for the decision, two titles may have been
removed because of business reasons: overruns of
Better Homes & Gardens and
Ladies' Home Journal were being sold for less at a rival store.
