Digg.com, which promotes articles by letting people vote on them, has changed its algorithms, upsetting many loyal users, particularly bloggers, who can no longer use the site the way they're used to. Instead of posting only the most popular stories dugg by its users, Digg's new algorithm looks for diversity in digging. Hopkins warns that the change will "greatly increase the lead-time between a story's breaking point and the story's wide distribution through Digg," thus undermining the site's usefulness. Also, fewer stories are thus promoted.

The algorithm shift has also changed the kinds of stories that make it to the homepage--regularly featured publisher have been knocked-off, replaced by several new names. Will Digg's vast community of regulars revolt? Some say they already have.
