EBay Restructures, Makes Silverman Head Of Skype

  • February 26, 2008
EBay has named Josh Silverman CEO of Skype, its VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) division. The online auction giant acquired San Jose, Calif.-based Skype, which allows users to make phone calls over the Web for free, in October 2005--and has struggled to maintain the division's profitability ever since.

Silverman currently serves as CEO of eBay's Shopping.com unit, and will take on his new role on March 24. He will replace Michael van Swaaij, who was appointed interim CEO in October 2007.

Andre Haddad, another eBay veteran, will take the helm as CEO of Skype. Haddad most recently served as senior vice president of product at eBay, and will also be leading the auction giant's consumer electronics business.
