What's The Benefit?

Steve [Smith], good post. I'm plenty old enough to remember those days too -- ["when another digital ad platform was struggling for the respect of advertisers."]

But there's one critical difference between Web and mobile. Advertising was already the way publishing made money, so the business model was already established. Mobile is subscription based - nobody is subsidizing my monthly bill as the consumer. So why do I want ads on my phone?

Maybe that question is like swearing in church on a site like MediaPost. But isn't that the fundamental question -- what's the bene for the end user?
