Court Orders Facebook To Disclose IP Address Of Fake Profile Creator

  • May 13, 2008
A judge in Indianapolis has ordered Facebook to disclose the IP address of a user who created a fake profile of a school principal.

The principal, Dean Tim Puntarelli of the Catholic private school Roncalli High School, had sued Facebook to force it to reveal information that can be used to identify whoever posted the profile.

Facebook took down the page soon after Puntarelli complained, but Puntarelli is still pursuing a lawsuit on the theory that the creator of the page stole his identity and harmed him by using the profile to transmit inappropriate material.
