T-Mobile USA posted second-quarter net income of $452 million--up from $350 million a year ago--while adding 668,000 net subscribers during the quarter. That figure is down from the 857,000 added a year ago and the 981,000 in the first quarter, but the U.S. arm of Deutsche Telecom has overall added 4.6 million subscribers since mid-2007 for a total of 31.5 million.

T-Mobile signed up more than a million MyFave customers in the quarter, with a total of 6.5 million using the carrier's community rate service. The average revenue per user (ARPU) for data services increased slightly to $8.60 from $8.50 in the prior quarter. Data now accounts for 17% of T-Mobile USA's ARPU.

Separately, T-Mobile Deutschland, which sells the iPhone in Germany, said sales of the new 3G version of the Apple device was "enjoying buoyant demand." T-Mobile also began selling the iPhone in Australia and the Netherlands on June 11. AT&T is Apple's U.S. wireless partner.--Mark Walsh
