EdBlog SE08We all grew up with video games. Editor Pollice had PlayStation. Pollard had Nintendo. Capone had Atari. Mack had Pong. And Mandese - well, Mandese had a stoop and a ball, but the point is we all got plenty excited about the gaming issue. When we secured Mario for the cover, we could barely contain ourselves. Chatter around the office grew louder as the day of the shoot neared.

"This is even bigger than that time we shot Obama Girl," exclaimed Wiegand, photo editor extraordinaire. But she had her work cut out for her this go-round. Time hasn't been kind to Mario, who first appeared in 1981 taking on Donkey Kong. And after the recent split with Luigi, Mario hit the sauce. He has put in his time at his local Brooklyn watering holes (he's no longer even allowed in Zablozki's). But our divine Ms. W worked her Photoshop magic to remove some gin blossoms and repair a reddened nose. The proof is on our cover, where the little plumber is looking pretty spry, we're sure you'll agree. We're tickled he agreed to help us demonstrate some of the innovative ways the gaming industry has found to integrate brands. While our imagined Red Bull tie-in hasn't happened yet - it certainly could.
