If nothing else, ["Mad Men'] has driven a stake through the hearts of Jim Anderson, Ward Cleaver and every other TV parent portrayed in the 1950s and 1960s. Don and Betty appear to be distant,
perfunctory providers who aren't particularly interested in nurturing. Do other Boomers besides me get a chilling feeling that our parents in their hearts thought we were pains in the ass? (Not to
mention the disturbing, gratuitous abuse of Don's daughter in "Three Sundays" by a smirking Joan.)
