Real Media, the global provider of marketing solutions to the digital advertising industry, said there was a record accumulation after all, during the recent Storm-of-the-Century-That-Wasn't. Real
Media's Open AdStream successfully served more than one billion ads in five days to weather.com during the week ending March 5, as storm-wary users generated record traffic to the site. In a single
day, March 5, Real Media moved 382,356,270 ads to weather.com.
Weather.com last year switched from DoubleClick's AdServer to Real Media's Open AdStream for its ad serving solution in part because
Adserver's centralized serving system could not scale fast enough when emergency weather conditions dramatically grew weather.com traffic. This surge in traffic had resulted in unacceptable delays in
the delivery of ads on the weather.com site.
