300 Ad Networks, What's the Exit Strategy?

During the “Network Survivor” panel at the OMMA AdNets show in New York, Terence Kawaja, Managing Director of GCA Savvian Advisors, pointed out that only14 ad networks have had exits in the past year. If there are more than 300 nets out there, that’s less than 5 percent of the total. So what happens to the rest who haven’t exited, he asked. Where are the buyers?

 

Well, “there’s not going to be lots of buyers,” said Colin Gillis, President of Click Capital. Some are just going to have to shut down, he said, others will be bought for their technology. But won’t bigger media companies come calling? Gillis certainly doesn’t think so. “There’s not going to be many more Google, Yahoo type acquisitions. They’ve got their networks.”
