Civil Rights Groups Embrace Urban TV Application

Bob Johnson's application to the FCC to create a new TV channel for African-Americans has gained support from 11 civil rights and minority organizations. The proposed channel, Urban Television, would use a portion of the DTV spectrum on Ion Media Networks' 42 stations. The group said it will dramatically increase diversity in "the marketplace of ideas that is essential to our democracy..."
