Sony Electronics Launches Community Site

  • January 7, 2009
In anticipation of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, Sony has unveiled a new community site that brings together its social media properties.

In addition to the company's electronics blog, the new social networking hub houses sites focused on soliciting consumer feedback, learning about consumer technology and reviews about Sony gear. More online communities will be rolled out in the coming months.

Sony gained notoriety in 2006 for launching a blog promoting its PlayStation game console purportedly written by a hip-hop artist. It turned out to be a fake blog created by a public relations firm. With that episode behind it, the electronics giant has since expanded its social media initiatives aimed at consumers.

To highlight its emphasis on user involvement, Sony is inviting people to submit ideas online for naming its new community site. It has also established a Sony Electronics presence on outside social properties including You Tube, Twitter and Flicker.--Mark Walsh
