Virgin Airlines Sues Adrants For Libel

  • January 30, 2009
Virgin Airlines has alleged that the blog Adrants infringed the airline's trademark and libeled it with a parody ad. The ad spoofed the Jan. 15 "splash landing" earlier this month by US Airways.

The fake ad included a photo of the plane in New York's Hudson River and the headline, "The Hudson Crash: Just One More Reason to Fly Virgin."

"Defendant's posting of the false advertisement on the Adrants.com Web site was likely to cause consumer confusion as to source, affiliation or sponsorship," the lawsuit alleges.

Virgin also alleges in its complaint that Adrants took down the ad by Jan. 19, within two days of the airline learning about it.--Wendy Davis
