List Of Wounded Retailers Growing

  • January 30, 2009
Add Bon-Ton, Chico's and Eddie Bauer to rapidly growing list. Chico's, the clothing chain aimed at Baby Boomer women, says it is laying off 11% of its headquarters' employees--about 180 people--and also closing as many as 25 of its stores. Michele M. Cloutier, president of the Chico's brand, has left the company.

And at the Bon-Ton Stores, 1,150 jobs are gone, as well as 2008 bonuses. At Eddie Bauer, 193 people are losing jobs--or about 15% of its non-retail staff--and the company has put a salary freeze into effect.--Sarah Mahoney
