  • NEIL SHAPIRO was named copywriter at DDB Canada.

  • CHRIS HARDER was named svp, associate managing director of MediaVest's Los Angeles office. In addition to her primary responsibilities on Mattel, Harder will handle digital integration, agency training and new and organic business growth in LA. Most recently, Harder served as svp, client director, MediaVest USA.

  • MARISA THALBERG joined Estée Lauder Online as vice president, global online marketing.

  • McClain Finlon Advertising hired PAUL LEROUE as president.  

  • Channel M named GARTH HOLSINGER as senior vice president of content sales. Prior to joining Channel M, Holsinger was a consultant to brands in the entertainment field.

  • MWW Group hired DENNIS DA COSTA as a vice president to lead the agency’s Global Health Policy Practice.

  • The Week Magazine named MERYLE LOWENTHAL as sales account director.

  • KAREN POLSKY HALSTEAD has been named as director of communications strategy at Eleven. Halstead joins the agency from Universal McCann San Francisco, where she was managing director.

  • (RED) named SUSAN SMITH ELLIS as its new chief executive officer. Ellis most recently served as executive vice president at Omnicom.

  • CheetahMail named STEVE LOMAX as European managing director. He joins CheetahMail from ClarityBlue, where he held the position of managing partner.

  • PATRICK CHAMBERS joins TAXI Vancouver as an art director. He was most recently at the Vancouver office of Y&R. His creative partner, MARK CLOTHIER, also with Y&R Vancouver, joined the agency as a writer.

  • TAXI 2 promoted RYAN WAGMAN to associate creative director. In addition, the agency hired GUYBRUSH TAYLOR as art director.

  • Media Storm hired JULIE DIFFENBACH as an interactive supervisor for its digital department. She joins the agency from Wieden+Kennedy New York. In addition, MICHAEL DUCHIN was named as an online media planner. He joins the company from Yahoo, where he served as a sales planner.

  • Discovery Communications appointed KRISTEN WELCH as Network CFO responsible for Discovery Channel and The Science Channel; BEN TEICHER as Network CFO for Animal Planet, Discovery Kids Media and Planet Green; and DOUG BAKER as Network CFO for Discovery Health Media Enterprises and for Digital Media, Emerging Networks and Business Development.

  • News Corporation and NBC Universal have appointed JASON KILAR, the former vice president and general manager of Amazon.com’s North American media businesses, as chief executive officer of the online video joint venture the companies formed in March.

  • Hill Holliday promoted KAREN KAPLAN to president of the agency’s national network. She is currently president of the Boston office.

  • RPA named CLAIRE BROWNE vice president, director of media insights, research and accountability. Most recently, Browne worked for National Cable Communications in Los Angeles as director of research.

  • Tribune Broadcasting promoted RICK FELTY to vice president of digital media. Felty was previously vice president of creative services. In his new role, he will direct the central operations for the broadcasting group’s 27 Web sites while coordinating online efforts in each local market.

  • PAM KAUFMAN was named chief marketing officer of Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids and Family Group. She previously served as executive vice president, marketing and worldwide promotions.

  • ANDY STARBUCK joined Real Cities as a national account manager.

  • Deutsch LA promoted MICHAEL BRYCE, MICHAEL KADIN and ERIC SPRINGER to executive vice president, group creative directors.

  • DOUG CRICHTON was named executive editor of the Better Homes and Gardens web site, BHG.com. He joins BHG.com from Time Inc., where he was editor-in-chief of Cooking Light and Health.

  • Teletrax named LORELEE WISEMAN as director of sales on the west coast and CHRISTOPHER GOLDEN as director of sales and business development on the east coast.
