Peter Bart, 76, has been replaced as the chief editor of
Variety. His deputy, Tim Gray, will take on his duties. The trade magazine endured cutbacks in January and, despite a loss of Web
traffic and ad revenue, is continuing to pursue a print strategy, reports
The Wrap. Gray is praised for opening bureaus, expanding coverage and providing a unique perspective. In the 1970s, he
was a Paramount producer. Bart will assume a new role as vice president and editorial director of
Variety.
