Peter Bart Out As 'Variety' Editor, Gray In

  • April 6, 2009
Peter Bart, 76, has been replaced as the chief editor of Variety. His deputy, Tim Gray, will take on his duties. The trade magazine endured cutbacks in January and, despite a loss of Web traffic and ad revenue, is continuing to pursue a print strategy, reports The Wrap. Gray is praised for opening bureaus, expanding coverage and providing a unique perspective. In the 1970s, he was a Paramount producer. Bart will assume a new role as vice president and editorial director of Variety.
