Google search properties account for 80.17% of all Canadian searches conducted in the 12 weeks ending April 25, 2009, according to Hitwise. MSN search, Yahoo search and Ask search received 8.84%, 7.34% and 2.75%, respectively. The remaining 41 search engines accounted for 1% of Canadian searches.

In a study of more than 165 industry categories, the Search Engine category came out on top -- capturing 14.58% of all Canadian Internet visits in April 2009, according to the research firm. The Social Networking and Forums category and Entertainment category followed. Search Engines attract a much larger share of visits in Canada than in the United States or the United Kingdom. --Laurie Sullivan
