Hartz Fulfills $3 Million Pledge Promise

  • December 28, 2009
Ten days after inviting pet lovers to nominate local shelters in need, Hartz Mountain Corp. received $1 million worth of nominations and is now busy shipping out 300,000 pet products to 150 shelters.

Secaucus, N.J.-based Hartz originally pledged in July to ship $3 million of Hartz pet supplies to shelters and food banks in the U.S. and Canada to help pet owners survive the tough economy. As of early December, the company still had $1 million in products to give away, thus the solicitation.

As the shipments go out, the company's Web site will feature the "Hartz Shelter Heroes" from shelters receiving the donations. In total, the Hartz Shelter Program will have shipped over 600,000 pet products. Among the items shipped were dog biscuits and bones, meat treats, rawhide, chews, puppy pads, collars and leashes, bowls, toys, grooming products and bedding, flea and tick treatments, vitamins and dental care products, bird seed, rabbit and small animal food. --Tanya Irwin
