Global Palate: Food Net Debuts In Mideast, Asia

Food Netowrk: Rachael Ray's

Scripps Networks Interactive is moving toward a potential tagline of "The Sun Never Sets on the Food Network." The programmer said Friday its 24/7 feed in the Middle East with Arabic subtitles will debut Feb. 1.

Scripps in November acquired a majority stake in a channel in India to air its culinary content. That followed word that the network would be up and running with tailored programming to countries in Asia this month. Under a partnership with a United Kingdom-based company -- part of Liberty Global -- it is also ticketed for a launch in Africa.

The channel has been available in 9 million homes in the United Kingdom through an agreement with that Liberty Global subsidiary, the same operation assisting with the African rollout and Middle East initiative.

In the Mideast, Food Network programming will air on an Orbit Showtime Network. Broadcasts will be in English with the Arabic subtitles and will include Rachael Ray's "30 Minute Meals," "Food Network Challenge" and "Iron Chef America."

Greg Moyer, president of Scripps Networks International, called it "another major step in our developing international expansion strategy."

Scripps believes that Food has ample runway for growth beyond the U.S. and its international expansion is an increasing focus for the network.
