The NYTCO has finally sold a small slice of its stake in the Boston Red Sox to Henry McCance, chairman emeritus of venture capital firm Greylock Partners, reports the
New York Post. The sale
cuts the Times' ownership in New England Sports Ventures, which also includes Fenway Park and interests in regional sports channels, from 17.5% to 16.6%. Financial terms were not disclosed. The small
size of the deal underscores how tough it is to find a buyer in down times -- even for a marquee team like the Red Sox, which
Forbes estimated to be worth $833 million last year.
