Sales, Profits Up At Timberland

Consumers are tiptoeing back to earth-friendly footwear, with the Timberland Co. reporting that first-quarter sales climbed 6.9% to $317 million, while net income rose to $25.7 million, compared with $15.9 million.

In North America, revenue gained 1.7% to $121.9 million. Comparable-store sales rose 4.5% in its 220 specialty and outlet stores across North America, Europe, and Asia.

"We are pleased to see that our product and brand initiatives are gaining traction," Jeffrey B. Swartz, president/CEO, says in its earnings results.
