Report: Eye Makeup Boosts Cosmetics Growth

American women are getting easier on the eyes, with Mintel reporting that eye makeup products continue to be the best-selling segment of the cosmetics market -- gaining 38% since 2004, compared to just 11% increase in the overall color cosmetics market.

Mascara -- used by 65% of respondents -- is growing the fastest, followed by eye shadow (63%) and eye liner (62%.) And some 38% of women use brow pencils. Lipstick and lip gloss continue to be the most-used cosmetic, worn by 76% of survey respondents, reports the Chicago-based market research company.
