Walgreen Reports Record Sales, Higher Earnings

Walgreen Co. says its fourth-quarter sales rose 7.4% to a record $16.9 billion, driven by stronger gains in prescription sales. Net earnings rose to $470 million, up from $436 million in the same period last year.
On a comparable-store basis, sales rose 1.5% (not including results from Duane Reade, which it acquired earlier this year.) In its full fiscal year, the Deerfield, Ill.-based retailer says it has boosted its share of the retail pharmacy market to 19.5%.
