Keenly aware of the shifting media landscape, Forbes Media on Thursday appointed ex-Yahoo executive Jorge Consuegra as its new chief marketing officer. "The media industry has experienced tremendous upheaval in the last few years, demanding that businesses analyze and redefine their brands," Consuegra said on Thursday. Along with such redefining often comes significant management realignment. Forbes, for its part, recently named Mike Perlis as CEO, and Lewis D'Vorkin as chief product officer.

Most recently, Consuegra served as senior vice president at Western Union, where he led the U.S. Product Management team. Previously, Consuegra served as vice president of international at Yahoo, where he oversaw the development of the online brand outside the U.S.

In the newly created role of CMO of Forbes Media, Consuegra will be responsible for guiding the Forbes brand during a time of great transition and change.

Forbes Media encompasses Forbes and Forbes.com, which presently claims more than 18 million monthly visitors.

Other Forbes Media Web sites include RealClearPolitics.com; RealClearMarkets.com; RealClearSports.com; RealClearWorld.com and the Forbes.com Business and Finance Blog Network.

Together with Forbes.com, these sites reach on average nearly 25 million business decision makers each month, according to the company.

To adapt to changing market realities, Forbes has been on a mission to cut costs and streamline operations for some time. In late 2009, the publisher cut 100 jobs from both the editorial and business side. Then, last summer, it sold financial education site Investopedia to online ad services company ValueClick for $42 million in an all-cash deal.

Last year, Forbes was even forced to sell its headquarters on Fifth Avenue to New York University. Financial terms were not released, but Forbes is expected to remain in the building under a five-year leaseback arrangement.
